Steven B. Smith's wonderful book, The Great Mental Calculators: The Psychology, Methods, and Lives of Calculating Prodigies, Past and Present, referenced throughout the first three chapters of my book, is unfortunately out of print. It can be found used online, but it is very expensive. Until a publisher reprints this book, I highly recommend locating it in a library and reading through it. It is a very nice companion book to mine, since it deals with an associated topic, and it is written in a very readable format.
In the near future, this section will contain relevant sections of some of the references cited at the end of this chapter.
